Hey folks,
Yes, that's right, I've reached into a little vault of Youtube lore for this Sunday evening post that has nothing to do with that link I just left you.
No, tonight's post, as with the one before it, has to do with Andrew Means, specifically with his decision to straight go off Friday afternoon against the Helena Brewers. Doing his best Drew Henson, Means went 3-for-6 with a single, two home runs and a career-high seven RBIs in a 17-2 thrashing that clinched Billings' spot in the postseason.
Now I have no idea how the playoffs work in short-season baseball -- my guess is the first-half winner plays the second-half winner, I'll check on it -- but Means will soon enough. His career day, topped off by an eighth-inning grand slam, moved the Mustangs to 22-13 on the season and clinched the first-half division title for the Reds minor league affiliate.
Means' coach, Julio Garcia, said afterward that Means shows a lot of promise in the batter's box, where he did most of his work Friday, as the team had him batting leadoff and hitting DH.
"He's just learning how to hit and this has been a long time coming," Garcia said to MLB.com. "He's been working very hard at it. Tonight, he got a couple of good pitches and hit them out of the park. I think a game like this will be great for his confidence."
Means obviously will not be with his teammates as they compete in the second half for reasons previously reported, but he seems poised to finish his summer strong before returning to Bloomington and the IU football team.
