While I was supposed to be working at my internship I decided the blog needed some updates. As some of you may or may not know, tomorrow is the MLB draft.

One (possible) Hoosier affected by the draft is the big left-handed pitcher from Rockport, Ind., Blake Monar. I called him up to see what his mood was like pre-draft and what decisions, if any, he had made.

On the MLB Draft: "I'm more excited than nervous. You hear everything (about where you could go) so you don't know what to expect. "

On possibly forgoing school: "It's more the money, rather than the round. Third round money is what I'm looking for. I have heard I could go anywhere in the top 10 (rounds), but you never know."

On the decision between the two: "Its one of those of those situations where I'm either going pro or to school, so I'm excited either way."

On committing to IU: "I liked coach (Tracy) Smith and coach (Ty) Neal. And I was an IU fan growing up so that just helped make my decision. "My sister goes there, my whole family went there. I enjoy it a lot. I picked it for how much I like it."

On the Hoosiers' season: "It was great to see them win. I would have liked to see them make the regional. They were a good team, and next year will be even better, regardless of whether I'm there or not."

I don't think I need to say this, but a quality left-hander like Monar would make IU exponentially better. All season long it was IU's defense and pitching which struggled. Monar has 4 pitches for outs, and if Matt Bashore plays next year like he did most of this season, IU is almost guaranteed two wins every weekend.

As far as Andrew Means -- you know -- the centerfielder who runs like a deer whether in the outfield or on the gridiron. I have a call into him and, hopefully, we'll be able to get in contact after the draft and discuss his plans.
