The IU media relations department printed out a little package detailing things for spring football 2008. One of the things that came with the package was an updated depth chart. There are a few interesting things of note while looking at it, such as :
* Kellen Lewis is still listed as the #1 quarterback, followed by Chappell. While it was never reported that Lewis was in jeopardy of being kicked off the team, this may ease the nerves of many Hoosier faithful out there. It shows that IU coach Bill Lynch and the rest of the staff fully expect #15 to be back from suspension before the season starts. Right?
* James Bailey and Andrew Means are listed as two of the three starting wide receivers alongside Ray Fisher. Means is currently doing baseball right now and won't be with the team for the entire spring, and Bailey has not been at practice, Lynch said it was for him to deal with 'personal issues.' At the moment sophomore Terrance Turner and freshman Matt Ernest are the two wide receivers working with the first team. However they are in sync with quarterback Ben Chappell, seeing as they were all second team last season.
* Senior Christopher Phillips and junior Bruce Hampton are listed as the two starting cornerbacks on defense, replacing Tracy Porter and Leslie Majors. Listed #2 on the depth chart behind Hampton is sophomore Adrian Burks, who Lynch raved about during their practices at the Insight Bowl. While Phillips will likely remain a starter all year, that second starting cornerback job could become very competitive.
* Sophomore Alex Perry is the new starting center, replacing senior Ben Wyss. Perry is listed at 6'7, 292 pounds...an upgrade in height and weight from Wyss, who was listed at 6'1, 280. Lynch said that the offensive line will be bigger, but less experienced than last years...along that same line of thought...
* Cody Faulkner is listed as the #1 right guard replacing senior John Sanberg. Faulkner is listed at 6'5, 315, while Sanberg was 6'2, 295.
