There's not much to say about Bobby Knight that hasn't been said a million different ways over the years. The man is a genius, but something of a tragic figure, too. The General's unexpected mid-season retirement has prompted many to reflect on his legacy, a legacy notable for the coach's antics as much as his accomplishments.

Sports Illustrated's Frank DeFord captured Knight's paradoxical ways best in a profile entitled The Rabbit Hunter that ran in SI in 1981. For anyone that hasn't read the piece, I highly recommend it. It's probably the closest anyone has come to explaining the method to Knight's madness.
