I'm here at Assembly Hall for a matchup between the Lady Hoosiers and the Showtime Skins, a touring team from Australia. I'm feeling a little lost and confused without my partner in crime Zach (he's in the newsroom doing his editing thing). I'll be alright though. The first half just concluded and it was pretty lopsided in the Hoosiers' favor. The score is 53-13.
A few first half notes: -Amber Jackson played a very good first half down low. She showed some really nice moves and finished most of her shots (6-8 from the field). -The Skins really struggled on the offensive end. IU's pressure really got to them and it resulted in turnovers and easy buckets for the Hoosiers. The few time the Skins did score it was on open three-point attempts. -IU shot very well from the three-point line, going 7-15 from beyond the arc. Nikki Smith was 3-5 from deep. -Jamie Braun led all scorers with 16 1st half points. -Freshman whitney Lindsay looked very quick on the defensive end. She constantly pressured the Skins' point guard and recorded 3 steals.
I'm thinking I wouldn't want to be Kelvin Taylor, the Showtime coach, right now. I don't know what you say to your team in the lockroom when you're down by 40 points at halftime.
It looks like the only thing in doubt is whether the Hoosiers will score 100 points. I'll be back with another update at the end of the game.
Final score: IU wins 80-37 The Hoosiers did not score 100 as they hit a bit of a dry spell early in the second half, but they did hold on for the win.
Not a whole lot new to report in the second half. The Skins came out with a lot more intensity in the second half and they were able to chip away a bit at the halftime deficit. The starters for IU rested most of the second half. Walk on Lydia Serfling saw about 6 minutes of playing time. Whitney Thomas had a good second half, after failing to score in the first half. She finished the game with eight points and eight rebounds.
That's all for now. I'll have a story in the paper tomorrow with more details.
