I have no idea why there is a traveling Australian team coming to Assembly Hall tomorrow night to take on the Hoosiers, but it is not for me to know, I guess.
A few quick notes about Saturday and tomorrow that I expounded upon in an article I wrote that will run in tomorrow's paper:
-Coach Jack said she thinks the Skins will be a shooting team, and she said the team worked on some looks the Hoosier Lady Stars threw at them offensively they weren't ready for. It should be interesting to see what kind of improvement we'll see tomorrow. -Jack seemed very impressed with Jamie Braun at the point, and so was I, as detailed in my earlier post. She said she sees a bright future with Braun at the point. -Coach said she thought Amber Jackson would get better and better as she settles in this year. She pointed out that Jackson, a transfer, has had a long layoff from basketball, so time on the court will be the best medicine for the junior forward. She was the leading scorer and rebounder in the WAC with San Jose State in 2005-2006, she'll be fine. -Jack said she really liked the energy her freshmen brought, singling out Whitney Lindsay as a player that could give her team an energy boost and spell Braun at the point, giving Braun the opportunity to score more from the other guard position. -With the season-opener against Albany coming up Friday, I asked coach Jack about the Great Danes, but she wouldn't budge. She said they don't quite know what to expect from Albany, pointing out they have some good returning players. But she said the team isn't looking beyond tomorrow night, and that they'll start looking at Albany on Wednesday.
Buckey will be at the game tomorrow night (I'll be sports editing down in the newsroom, not nearly as exciting), and he should have some halftime updates and postgame thoughts for you folks once the action's done. Until then, enjoy.
