Take that Purdue.
Only six games into the season, IU sophomore defensive lineman Greg Middleton has established himself as a force to be reckoned with up front and getting to the quarterback. Now, people are taking notice at his early season success.
With 8.5 sacks, good for first on the team and second in the nation, SI.com named Middleton to their midseason all-american team. He is the second Hoosier in as many years to earn the honor - senior running back Marcus Thigpen was named last year, as a member of special teams.
Prior to this season, Middleton hadn't started a game, and was originally recruited to play defensive tackle - not defensive end. Initially, the sophomore was going to attend to Purdue, but changed his mind after they told him to gain weight and become a defensive tackle. Since starting for IU this year, he has made his presence felt and is threatening to break the sack-record of 14, set in 1987 and held by Van Waiters.
Middleton has also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, and defensed four passes.
