How big of a rivalry does IU have with U of I? We have a Memorial Stadium, they have a Memorial Stadium. We have an Assembly Hall, they have an Assembly Hall. They wanted Eric Gordon to play for their basketball team, Eric Gordon IS going to play for our basketball team. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being IU-Indiana State) (10 being Purdue) Where does the rivlarly with U of I rank?
I'd put it as a nine. There seems to be a general loathing between the two schools fan bases. (I've heard various students on campus refer to the University of Illinois is "Tool of I," "Cryin' Illini" and "Ill-Whini." And being from Illinois I can say first hand the folks from Champaign aren't too fond of Indiana.)
Obviously the Eric Gordon created a lot of the heat, but the football programs are growing at the same rate and have had some real competitve games the past few years. I think there's a lot of room for this rivalry to grow. But i'm just a caveman, how big of a rivalry do you think IU has with Illinois?
Some quotes from practice today:
Kellen Lewis, after being asked if he has any cool nicknames like 'Juice'
"Fancy nickname I really wouldn't say I have one, my quarterback coach has one for me but that's just 'cause he doesn't understand that my hairline is not receding, he calls me spot."
Lewis on quarterbacks that he likes to watch:
"Another quarterback that I watched quite a bit was Matt Leinart. Even though he's not per say a scrambler like that just some of the things he does in the pocket that I need to work on."
'Spot Lewis'....something about that just doesn't flow as well as 'Juice Williams' but maybe it will catch on
