Indiana men’s tennis redshirt senior Sam Landau advanced to the round of 16 in singles at the ITA All-American Championships, leading four Hoosiers who competed in the tournament Sept. 19-27 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The nine-day tournament at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center featured some of the top collegiate players in the country. Landau, junior Braeden Gelletich, redshirt sophomore Aidan Atwood and senior Ben Pomeranets represented Indiana in singles competition, while Landau and Gelletich competed together in doubles.
Landau was the lone Hoosier to earn a spot directly in the singles main draw. He opened play against University of South Carolina redshirt sophomore Paul Barbier Gazeu in the round of 64.
After dropping the first set 2-6, Landau responded by winning the next two sets 6-2, 6-0 to advance. In the round of 32, Landau faced North Carolina State University senior Toby Kodat and won 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 to move into the round of 16.
Landau’s run ended Friday against Clemson University freshman and No. 16 seed Viktor Markov. Markov defeated Landau 6-4, 7-6 (1), keeping the Hoosier one win short of advancing to the quarterfinals.
Landau is coming off an 11-6 singles record during the 2025-26 season. He also made the first NCAA Individual Championship appearance in singles by a Hoosier since Jakub Praibis in 2004, reaching the round of 64 last season.
Gelletich, Atwood and Pomeranets each began singles competition in the prequalifying stage.
Gelletich opened the tournament with a straight-sets victory over Arizona State University freshman Jan Klimas, winning 6-3, 7-5. He advanced to face North Carolina State sophomore Charlie Camus in the following round, where Gelletich won the opening set before Camus came back to beat him 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Gelletich finished last season with a 10-8 record in dual singles matches and went 6-4 in Big Ten play. Gelletich also recorded a 5-2 singles record during the fall portion of the 2025-26 season.
Pomeranets also earned a victory in his opening match, defeating Washington junior Stephane Kamendje 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. His singles run ended in the next round against University of Mississippi sophomore Vlado Jankanj, who defeated Pomeranets 6-3, 6-3.
Atwood faced Texas A&M University sophomore Kriish Tyagi in his opening match and fell 6-4, 7-5. He then moved to the consolation draw, where Santa Clara University senior Luca Lemaitre beat him 7-5, 7-6 (4).
Along with their singles appearances, Landau and Gelletich represented Indiana in doubles competition. The pair began in the qualifying draw and defeated Oklahoma State University senior Nicolas Kobelt and freshman Sydney Zick 6-1, 7-5 before winning against University of Florida freshman Ty Host and senior Henry Jefferson 7-6 (6), 6-3 to earn a spot in the main draw.
Landau and Gelletich continued their run with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over University of Arizona senior Sasha Rozin and junior Gilb Sekachov in the main draw round of 32.
Their run ended in the round of 16 against No. 1-seeded Ohio State junior Nikita Filin and senior Brandon Carpico, who defeated the Hoosier duo 6-3, 6-2.
Landau and Gelletich went 9-1 together in Big Ten play last season and reached as high as No. 46 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association doubles rankings.
Indiana will return to action Oct. 2-4 at the Louisville Invite in Louisville, Kentucky.
