Warm weather is finally back, which provides the perfect opportunity to get out of the house and go to a local music event around Bloomington this week. This week offers plenty of different options for live music fans.
Monday
Natalie Boeyink will have a free jazz performance with her ensemble at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater starting at 7:30 p.m. Boeyink is an associate professor of music in jazz at the Jacobs School of Music. The performance will feature works by composer David Baker, who founded the jazz studies program at IU.
Wednesday
Adam Faucett and T.V. Mike will each perform sets at the Orbit Room starting at 7 p.m. Tickets to the show cost $13.60 with an additional food or drink purchase required. Faucett plays folk and has some original music, while T.V. Mike also plays mainly folk music.
Student band Opal will perform at The Bluebird. The show will start at 10 p.m., and tickets will cost $12.43 for the 21-and-up show. The student group, which began through the Bloomington Delta Music Club, mainly performs classic rock music.
Friday
Food Truck Friday is back at Switchyard Park. The event hosts a variety of different food trucks and typically features live music. The performers will be announced closer to the event on the food Truck Friday Facebook page. The musicians typically play from 5-9 p.m., and the event is free to attend.
Midnight Butcher and Holy Mackerel will perform at the Orbit Room. The show will start at 7 p.m., and tickets cost $13.60 with an additional food or drink purchase required. The artists mainly play rock, punk and indie music.
Johnny Socko will play at The Bluebird. The 21-and-up show will start at 8 p.m., and tickets will cost $25.39. The band is based in Indianapolis but got its start in Bloomington in the ‘90s. The group has released five original albums and plays mainly rock music.
Saturday
The Orbit Room will host a deadhead happy hour, with three hours of Grateful Dead music spun by DJ Bongo. The event will go from 5-8 p.m. and is free for all ages. DJ Bongo will also be accepting Grateful Dead song requests.
Molly Tuttle will perform with The Band Loula at The Bluebird. The show will start at 8 p.m., and tickets for the 21-and-up show will cost $37.05. Tuttle, who mainly plays bluegrass and americana music, has released six original albums. The Band Loula will open for Tuttle and play mainly traditional country and folk music; the group has also released some original music.
Sunday
The ABBA tribute band ABRA Cadabra will perform at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The show is a celebration of the music of ABBA and will begin at 7:30 p.m., with ticket prices ranging from $55.66 to $72.07 depending on seating at the theater.
