Delta Kappa Epsilon placed on cease and desist for hazing

The Office of Student Life placed IU’s chapter of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity on cease and desist Feb. 19 following an alleged hazing incident that occurred Feb. 11. The investigation is ongoing, IU spokesperson Mark Bode said in a Feb. 23 statement.

The fraternity joins five other IU organizations currently on cease and desist. Four are also fraternities, and one is the Palestine Solidarity Committee.

Cease and desist directives are put into place when organizations are accused of taking actions that have harmed or may harm individuals. While on cease and desist, the fraternity may not carry on any organizational activities, including hosting events, recruiting or initiating new members or participating in philanthropic activities.

Delta Kappa Epsilon has not individually faced specific disciplinary action in the past five academic years, according to the OSL website.

The fraternity was disciplined twice last year as part of a larger group of organizations. It was most recently banned from hosting and participating in events Nov. 14 as members of the IU Interfraternity Council. In his letter announcing the ban, OSL Vice Provost Lamar Hylton wrote, “The risk is too high to continue this arrangement given the status of the IFC community."

Delta Kappa Epsilon was also included in a March 2025 blanket ban on panhellenic activities.
