Early Learning Center Classroom Volunteers Needed
New Hope for Families needs Early Learning Center (ELC) Classroom Volunteers. ELCs work to engage children in conversation and play, assist with art and science projects, keep the children occupied during times of transition (such as lunch/snack time), and simply act as a compassionate and caring friend. This volunteer role is for those age 18 and up, though teens age 16-17 may volunteer with a parent. Volunteers should expect to commit to a shift of 2 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. The Early Learning Center is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Child Visit Monitors Needed - Help Monitor CASA's Waitlist
Monroe County CASA needs volunteers 21 years and older to help as Child Visit Monitors, a position created in 2018 to help observe the situation of children on CASA’s waitlist. A Child Visit Monitor (CVM) will help to monitor the children through monthly visits until a CASA advocate is available. The Child Visit Monitor will visit a child or sibling group each month in the current placement location and then report back to CASA staff. Child Visit Monitors also help transition a case to a CASA advocate, allowing a smoother transition for the child(ren) involved. Community members interested in becoming a Child Visit Monitor must be 21 years of age or older, have access to the internet for visit reporting, and be willing to travel outside Monroe County for visits if needed. This volunteer position requires approximately three hours per month of volunteer time and at least one year of service. A CVM does not go to court or participate in other case-related meetings. This is a great volunteer opportunity for someone interested in the CASA program but cannot commit the time to be an advocate. Child Visit Monitor trainings are scheduled on an as-needed basis and last approximately 6 hours, typically spread over two days.
Upcoming Child Visit Monitor training: November 5 and 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please apply for this training by October 15.

Wish List Spotlight:
Diaper Drives
Tandem Community Birth Center and Postpartum House are also looking for local groups and organizations to run diaper drives. They would prefer if you would do a drive for a specific size (or just wipes!). Tandem distributes >20,000 diapers per month, so partners interested in doing an annual drive would be amazing. Tandem does get intermittent mass restocks via the Indiana Diaper Bank, but it's not enough to fill local (and growing) needs.
