The following is a press release written by Kristy Taylor and Andrew Krebbs for the Monroe County Humane Association.

Monroe County Humane Association (MCHA) is proud to share the impact of its programs in 2024, marking a year of extraordinary growth in support of pets and the people who love them.

Fueled by community generosity and strong partnerships, MCHA helped more animals in more ways than ever before—offering veterinary care, shelter, food, and outreach services to thousands of local pets.

Key accomplishments include:

1,455 days of Crisis Housing provided to pets while their owners faced emergencies like hospitalization, domestic violence, or displacement—a 94% increase over 2023

$134,000 in free veterinary care delivered through MCHA’s Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic—a 16.5% increase—ensuring that pets could receive treatment regardless of their family’s income.

28,138 pounds of pet food distributed through the Pet Food Pantry—a 12.6% increase, helping feed thousands of hungry cats and dogs.

500 pet visits through the Street Outreach Program—a 38.9% increase, offering critical care to pets of individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

624 pets vaccinated at monthly Mobile Vaccine Clinics—a 62.5% jump that reflects MCHA’s growing presence in underserved areas.

$9,100 in spay/neuter vouchers issued–a 22.8% increase helping prevent thousands of unwanted litters and easing pressure on local shelters.

2,668 volunteer hours contributed, valued at over $89,000, powering nearly every corner of MCHA’s work. After several quieter years, we relaunched the program with a renewed focus on meaningful, mission-driven engagement.

“Each one of these numbers represents a pet who got to stay with their family, avoid unnecessary suffering, or find safety during a time of crisis,” said Andrew Krebbs, Executive Director. “That’s what drives our work—keeping pets healthy, home, and where they belong.”

These milestones are highlighted in MCHA’s newly released 2024 Annual Report, available at monroehumane.org/annualreport
