Chris Lemonis, who was formerly the Indiana baseball head coach from 2014-17 before leaving for Mississippi State in 2018, was fired Monday, according to a Mississippi State Athletics release.
Before Lemonis coached at Indiana, he played collegiate baseball at The Citadel from 1990-93. After his playing career, Lemonis was an assistant coach at the University of Louisville from 2006-2013.
Lemonis officially took over as the head coach of Indiana baseball ahead of the 2015 season, just a season removed from a College World Series appearance in 2013.
During his four-year tenure in Bloomington, Lemonis led the Hoosiers to a 141-91-2 overall record. The Hoosiers held a mark of 55-37-1 in the Big Ten over that span.
The Starkville, Mississippi, native guided the Hoosiers to three NCAA Tournament appearances in his four years but never found much success in the tournament.
After taking over at Mississippi State, Lemonis found much greater success in the NCAA Tournament. He led the Bulldogs to their first-ever national championship in 2021 after he guided them to two College World Series appearances in 2019 and 2021.
Lemonis achieved a record of 232-135 in his nearly seven seasons in Starkville. He also won the 2021 National Coach of the Year award.
Lemonis ledgb Mississippi State to the NCAA tournament in 2024. However, in his seventh season in 2025, the Bulldogs held a 25-19 record (7-14 in SEC conference play) before Lemonis was fired.
