Indiana women’s tennis pulls off dominating victories at Columbia Invitational

Indiana Women’s tennis had a smashing start to the 2024-25 year, shutting out multiple opponents during the Columbia Invitational. 

This past weekend, the Hoosiers had decisive victories over Cornell University and Hofstra University. While trading blows, Indiana took its only loss against the hosts, Columbia University. It finished the weekend 2-1.  

Day one showed promise for the freshman additions to the team, with Marina Fuduric and Nicole Sifuentes getting their first wins at the collegiate level. Indiana went undefeated in the four doubles matches and secured a positive 6-3 record in singles to finish the day against Cornell University. 

The Hoosiers continued their success on day two as they went undefeated in all nine matches against Hofstra. The pairings of Fuduric and sophomore Li Hsin Lin, and sophomores Elisabeth Dunac and Chase Boyer, left their opponents scoreless in their doubles matches, while sophomore Sarah L’ailler shut out Hofstra opponent Mary Madigan 6-0, 6-0.  

Indiana also went undefeated in the four doubles matches against the Stony Brook University Seawolves. 

Fuduric held the the Hoosiers' undefeated standing by taking her senior opponent Lea Forste-Dinell to extra points for a score of 11-9 in the tiebreaker set. 

The final day left Indiana on a lower note against Columbia. The Lions went 33 for 37 in matches throughout the weekend, with three of those losses against Indiana. The Hoosiers went 1-4 in the doubles matches and 2-6 in the singles.  

Dunac beat Columbia freshman Emily Baek in a comeback victory, winning 1-6, 6-4 and 15-13 after a third-set tiebreaker. It was a crucial win for Indiana on Sunday, being one of the three wins for the Hoosiers against the Lions. 

Indiana finished with an overall record of 26-13 in matches and will compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships on Sept. 21.
