Autumn brings, in my opinion, style’s best. Darker colors, layering, sweaters —all traditions I revel in. As the air becomes crisp, and the fall foliage makes you feel like you’ve stepped directly onto the set of “Gilmore Girls,” let your wardrobe change with the seasons. This is what is in this fall (according to me).
Knee-high leather boots
If you’re lucky, you might find a pair of 90s Frye boots in your mom’s closet. This vintage boot is a timeless addition to any outfit. Olivia Rodrigo, a Gen-Z style icon, is one of many putting them back in the trend loop. A knee-high boot is this fall’s version of the cowboy boot (although I never want to see the cowboy boot fall out of trend). The leather boot is a perfect way to elevate any outfit, whether it’s a maxi dress or mini skirt for going out. P.S., if anyone has a pair of brown Frye boots in a size 8 they don’t want, please reach out!
Chunky buckle belts
It’s hard to find an era when some style of the closet-staple belt was not popular. The belt’s 2024 reemergence is an ode to the 80s and 90s chunky belt. Supermodels Cindy Crawford and Elle MacPherson rocked them off duty in the 90s. Just last month, Bella Hadid was pictured wearing hers in Los Angeles. Best paired with a low rise bootcut jean or long white skirt, chunky belts allow for more dimension in an outfit. From metallic to leopard, the options are truly endless. You never want to be too simplistic with your fall fits and the chunky belt is the first step to leveling up anything.
Suede
When it comes to fall style, we normally think wool and leather. During this year’s New York Fashion Week, suede reemerged in the audience. Justin Theroux attended Ralph Lauren’s show in their men’s Roughout Suede Jacket. I want to preface this by saying that suede is an investment piece. I am already scheming a way to source mine from a vintage shop or perhaps in a lucky thrift find. For those who crave fashion’s biggest comfort, you are not alone. There are many ways for you to rock suede. Some opt for a loafer, many love a trench coat, others love a blazer. And for those taking their time to consider, don’t worry! This piece carries right into winter.
Double denim
Many people hear double denim and immediately think of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s 2001 American Music Awards look. This season’s trend is a very far departure from that. Also known as a Canadian tuxedo, this look has been seen on everyone from Taylor Swift at the NFL Season Opener to Cate Blanchett on Good Morning America. Double denim is a polished casual outfit, allowing for comfort with structure. Dress it up by pairing it with a pointy flat or loafer!
Embrace your inner 90’s main character with these trends and remember to always add your personal style to everything you wear. And if you are ever lost, my Pinterest board is here to help.
