Bloomington police confirms no active threat at College Mall Tuesday

news filler.jpg

The Bloomington Police Department confirmed there is no active shooter threat at College Mall in Bloomington.

Some members of the IU community mistakenly believed there was an active shooting occurring at College Mall on Tuesday. BPD believes it was a misunderstanding due to news reports of a shooting Monday at a different shopping plaza near the 300 block of E. Winslow Road.

BPD Detective Lieutenant Lucas Tate said in an email they do not believe the incident was due to swatting, which involves falsely reporting a serious crime to bring large amounts of police officers to a particular scene, and they are currently investigating what happened.

Haley Ryan contributed to this report. This story will be updated.
