Pianist Emanuel Ax will perform at 7:30 p.m. on April 25 at IU Auditorium. Ax will interpret the works of Franz Schubert and Franz Liszt, two of the most well known and prolific composers of the Classical and Romantic eras.
Ax is a multiple Grammy award-winning pianist who currently teaches at the Julliard School in New York City. He holds numerous honorary degrees from prestigious institutions and has been a prominent recording artist for more than four decades.
For much of that time, he has worked closely with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, acting as his primary recital partner. The pair have recorded numerous cello/piano albums, as well as playing together in chamber group recordings.
Franz Schubert was an Austrian composer whose works contributed to the Classical period of music. He composed symphonies, operas, chamber music and solo piano works including 15 completed sonatas.
Franz Liszt was a Hungarian composer of the later Romanic period. One of the most prolific composers of the era, he became well known for his striking performances that inspired a phenomenon known as “Lisztomania.”
Tickets are available to IU students starting at $14 and to the general public starting at $24. They can be found at the IU Auditorium website.
