The Indiana women’s soccer team will play its final match of the regular season Sunday afternoon against Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Both the Hoosiers and Wolverines have already been eliminated from postseason eligibility.

Indiana is coming off a heartbreaking 0-1 loss to Maryland on Oct. 20. The Hoosier defense was able to hold off the Terps in hopes of avoiding another conference loss until Maryland notched a goal in the 86th minute of play. Indiana is in last place in the Big Ten and has yet to win a conference match.

Michigan, despite sitting 11th in Big Ten standings with a 2-5-2 record, is coming off one of its best performances of the season. The Wolverines took down the No. 14-ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3-2 their last time out on the pitch. Other quality outings from Michigan during the 2022 campaign include a 2-1 win over then-No. 20 Washington State University in the season opener and a 1-1 draw with then-No. 19 University of Colorado on Sept. 8.

Indiana’s best match of the season came in a 0-0 draw against then-No. 8 Penn State on Sept. 18. The Hoosiers’ strong defense was on full display against a top-10 offense in the country, and they got off to a very strong start in what was bound to be a challenging Big Ten schedule.

Since then, Indiana’s conference record has dropped to 0-7-2. The only other point came against in-state rival Purdue on Oct. 16 in a 2-2 draw, one of the Hoosiers’ only three matches in which they scored goals.

Michigan has tallied 31 goals thus far, including three games with six or more scores. Indiana has found the back of the net 10 times this year, with five of those goals coming against Division III opponent Trine University.

In the teams’ most recent matchup on Oct. 3, 2021, they played to a 0-0 overtime draw when Indiana hosted then-No.17-ranked Michigan at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Wolverines lead the all-time series 17-6-5.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the match will be broadcast on BTN+.
