IUPD receives 14 reports of bike theft since start of semester

Crime Filler

IU Police Department has received 14 reports of bicycle theft since Aug. 24, according to IU Police Department Deputy Chief Shannon Bunger.

Most of the thefts have occurred from bicycle racks near residence halls, including Wright Quadrangle, Eigenmann Hall, Cedar Hall and Forest Quadrangle, Bunger said in an email. The thefts have mostly occurred during the overnight hours.

Bunger said a few stolen bicycles were not locked to a rack, but most of them were secured with cable locks. He said IUPD encourages people to secure their bikes with U-locks because it takes longer to cut U-locks than cable locks.

IUPD currently has no suspects. Anyone with information about this incident or another crime is encouraged to contact IUPD.
