20-year-old man dead after being hit by car while riding e-scooter

A 20-year-old man riding an electric scooter died after he was hit by a car around 2 a.m. Sunday.  

The driver, 22-year-old Madelyn Howard, has been charged with allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury or death while intoxicated. Both charges are felonies.  

The accident occurred at the intersection of North Walnut Street and East 12th Street.  

Police identified a black 2012 Mercedes-Benz with windshield damage and a damaged electric scooter at the intersection of 19th Street and Lincoln Street, a half mile away from the accident.  

The victim was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, but he died from his injuries, according to WTHR. The victim is currently unidentified. 

Howard was taken to the same hospital for a blood test, and then taken to the Bloomington Police Department for questioning.
