Indiana men’s track and field thrower Sean Mockler wins Irish National Championship

Indiana men’s track and field sophomore Sean Mockler competed in the Irish Life Health National Track and Field Championships in Dublin, Ireland over the weekend. Mockler took first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 65.33 meters.

Mockler’s victory over the weekend marks his first national title in a senior event. He currently ranks No. 123 internationally in the hammer throw, according to World Athletics.

Mockler won the silver medal in the hammer throw at the Big Ten Championships and earned Second-Team All-American status with a 16th-place finish in the NCAA Championships. He set the Indiana hammer throw record at the Penn Relays in late April with a throw of 68.68 meters. His record is a personal best and 11th best in Irish history.
