Indiana baseball to play Troy in three-game series with Sunday doubleheader

After winning its two midweek matchups to improve to a 6-6 record, Indiana baseball will travel to Troy, Alabama, this weekend, where it will face off against Troy University in a three-game series.

Indiana was initially scheduled to play one game each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. However, the two teams will play a single game on Friday before playing a doubleheader on Sunday due to forecasted rain in the area.

Coming into the season, Indiana had only one doubleheader on its schedule, a two-game matchup against Xavier University on March 19. The scheduling change against Troy allows Indiana to get acquainted with playing two games in one day before facing off against Xavier next week.

Both Indiana and Troy enter the weekend coming off recent surges. Indiana has won five of its last six games and outscored its opponents 63-20 during that span. Troy has won three of its previous four games, including a 14-6 road win against Jacksonville State University on Wednesday.

The Trojans have struggled on the road this season and are 2-4 overall. However, they have found great success at winning games at home, going 6-1 on their home turf.

Indiana announced juniors John Modugno, Jack Perkins and senior Bradley Brehmer will start on the mound this weekend. The same trio of starters pitched in Indiana's series win over Missouri State University last weekend.

Modugno has started the series opener in Indiana's three weekend series thus far. However, Perkins — who typically pitches on Saturday — was bumped up to start this weekend’s opener at 3 p.m. Friday.

Modugno will pitch the first game of the doubleheader at noon on Sunday, and Brehmer is in line to pitch the second game of the doubleheader to round out the series.

Indiana is riding a four-game winning streak and looks to keep that intact with its stellar pitching and offensive production as of late. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
