The Buskirk Chumley Theater will show four Studio Ghibli films throughout January.
Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation film studio best known for its animation feature films.
The BCT will premiere “Spirited Away” on Jan. 15, “My Neighbor Totoro” on Jan. 22, “Castle in the Sky'' on Jan. 28 and “Kiki’s Delivery Service'' on Jan. 29. All shows start at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m.
BCT Executive Director Jonah Crismore said the BCT wanted to show Studio Ghibli films to bring something different to the theater. He said while they often show family centric and classic films, they haven’t done a lot with animation in the past.
Since Studio Ghibli is adored by members of the community, students and even the BCT staff, they thought it would be a good time to bring these films to the BCT, Crismore said.
“We are a Bloomington community stage and as a result of that, we want to show things that we feel the whole community can get behind and enjoy,” Crismore said.
COVID-19 vaccine verification or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours is required to enter the venue. All attendees must wear a mask inside the venue.
General tickets are $8 and student tickets are $6. Patrons can get tickets for all four films for $28. Tickets can be purchased online on the BCT Box Office.
