A 28-year-old man drove a pickup truck into IU’s Atwater Eye Care Center Tuesday morning. The truck crashed into the lobby at about 1:30 a.m., and the man was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital before being taken to jail, according to the Herald-Times.

No one was inside the building and no one was hurt, according to IUPD Chief Jill Lees. After crashing through a wall of glass on the south side of the building, the truck caused extensive damage to the lobby. The man drove through the room where customers select glasses and into the reception desk.

The man’s motive is unclear. Lees told the Herald-Times investigators are looking into whether the suspect has a connection to the university or optometry school.
