IU sophomore outfielder Grant Richardson was announced Tuesday as a Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Richardson started in 14 of IU’s 15 games last season and led the team in batting average with a .424 mark. He launched five home runs, along with 17 RBI and totaled 21 runs scored. Richardson’s numbers ranked him first in the Big Ten in home runs, runs scored, slugging percentage and total bases.

Last season, Richardson led the program in multi-hit games with nine and multi-RBI games with four. He finished the year on a nine-game hitting streak.

In the team’s season opening series at Louisiana State University, Richardson cracked six hits, racked up five RBI, tallied one home run and scored four runs in three games. He was named Big Ten Player of the Week as a result. On March 7, Richardson missed the cycle by a home run in a game against the University of San Diego.

Richardson had already been named to the 2020 Perfect Game Honor Roll and and Most Impressive hitter in the Big Ten by D1Baseball for his performances last season.

Richardson was building off of his freshman campaign where he was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American and tabbed to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. As a freshman in 2019, he started 42 games for a Hoosier team that captured a regular season conference crown.

Since the spring seasons were cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, Richardson’s development wasn’t able to be displayed throughout the entirety of the year. Under second-year head coach Jeff Mercer, the Hoosiers finished the season with a 9-6 overall record.
