IU Marching Hundred director David Woodley will step down from his directing position immediately.

According to an email Woodley sent to Marching Hundred members, the dean of the Jacobs School of Music asked him to step down as director. Woodley, a music professor at Jacobs, cited health concerns as the reason for his departure in an open letter on the Marching Hundred’s website.

“Your spirit and playing ability made those games extremely fun,” he wrote to fans.

Woodley joined the IU faculty in 1993. He will continue to teach as a professor at the music school beginning in the fall semester.

Woodley declined to comment for this story.
