IU basketball adds walk-on Adrian Chapman, fills out roster to maximum size

In the hours before Hoosier Hysteria and basketball season begin, the team announced the 15th and final member of its roster.

Adrian Chapman, a senior walk-on, joins the Hoosiers as the team’s fourth walk-on. Chapman is a 6-2 guard from Brownsburg, Indiana. He averaged 8.6 points per game as a senior at Brownsburg High School. He’ll wear the No. 15 jersey with IU.

Chapman joins juniors Cooper Bybee and Jacquez Henderson as well as freshman Nathan Childress as head coach Archie Miller’s walk-ons. Henderson, like Chapman, joined the team this fall, while Bybee and Childress were added over the summer.

The addition brings IU’s roster up to full capacity. Eight of the 15 players on the roster are Indiana natives. The roster features four freshman, three sophomores, five juniors and three seniors.

IU added both Henderson and Chapman as well as graduate transfer Joey Brunk in April after a recruiting class that only brought in two scholarship freshmen, leaving IU’s roster with multiple open spaces as the 2018-19 season ended and summer approached.

Even with IU completing its roster, it didn’t fill all of its scholarship spots, as the NCAA allows for 13 scholarship players. Effectively, Henderson and Chapman are filling those spots, but as walk-ons.
