Pair of scrimmages to prepare IU for upcoming season

The IU field hockey team will finish out preseason preparations this weekend.

First, IU will travel to Muncie, Indiana, on Friday to take on Ball State in an exhibition game.

This will be the first of two times the teams will see each other this season. The second matchup won't take place until Sept. 8 in Bloomington. Last year, the Hoosiers got their first win of the season against the Cardinals, 2-0.

IU will play in front of fans for the first time the following day for an intrasquad scrimmage at 3 p.m. The Hoosiers are looking for their first winning season since 2014 with new head coach and IU graduate Kayla Bashore at the helm.

Senior Kelsey Giese returns as the leading goal scorer to go with six other seniors to form an experienced attack. In goal, the Hoosiers also return both goalkeepers from last year’s campaign. This returning talent has the Hoosiers primed to improve upon their four-win 2018 total. The first regular season game will be Aug. 30 at the University of Louisville.
