Instant Recap: IU men's basketball season ends with loss to Wichita State

NIT_Basketball_Arkansas_Morgan_Tiplick.JPG

* FINAL: Wichita State defeats IU 73-63.

That will do it for the 2018-19 IU men's basketball season, and the college careers of players like Juwan Morgan and Zach McRoberts.

Maybe no Romeo Langford final caught up to the Hoosiers, or maybe it was allowing 11 three-pointers which did the Hoosiers in.

But either way the result remains that IU's season ends in the NIT quarterfinals, a win short of a trip to Madison Square Garden and two wins shy of an NIT title.

Archie Miller's team finishes the season with a 19-16 overall record after going 16-15 a season ago.

Romeo Langford's future with the program will surely be decided in the coming weeks.

* Under-4 timeout (2:24 left in the game) Wichita State leads IU 64-57.

End appears near for the Hoosiers now.

Dexter Dennis has five three-pointers for Wichita State and McDuffie has 21 points of his own.

Morgan back in the game now for IU after a brief rest at a curious time.

* Under-8 timeout (6:50 left in the game) Wichita State leads IU 54-52.

Devonte Green is back in the game for the Hoosiers, made a three-pointer and was fouled, but missed the ensuing free throw which would have tied the game.

* Under-12 timeout (11:50 left in the game) Wichita State leads IU 46-44.

Hoosiers go on a 6-2 run to close the gap a bit further, but they have lost the services of junior guard Devonte Green, who pulled up limp and has gone to the IU locker room.

* Under-16 timeout (14:28 left in the game) Wichita State leads IU 44-38.

Juwan Morgan leads all players in the game with 18 points, but no other player has more than eight points for the Hoosiers.

* HALFTIME: Wichita State leads IU 36-29.

Hoosiers are 20 minutes away from their season coming to a close.

McDuffie leads all scorers for the visitors with 16 points, while Morgan has 11 for the Hoosiers.

There's been a lot of physical contact in this game, on both sides, and the officials are letting them play through it all.

Al Durham hit a couple three pointers toward the end of the half for IU, but no one has really reliably emerged as another scoring weapon for the home team.

Archie Miller has 15 minutes to get his team right for the second period.

* Under-4 timeout (2:50 left in the half) Wichita State leads IU 32-23.

McDuffie is single-handedly bringing down the Hoosiers right now, as he has 16 points for the visitors.

Juwan Morgan trying to keep up with him as he has 11.

* Under-8 timeout (7:35 left in the half) Wichita State leads IU 21-13.

Markis McDuffie is up to 10 points for the Shockers now, including his latest three-pointer, after which he pointed down to the IU court as if to say this was his gym.

It's certainly Wichita State's gym right now, as they're lighting up the Hoosiers.

* Under-12 timeout (11:28 left in the half) Wichita State leads IU 9-8.

The Hoosiers and Shockers are both struggling mightily on offense, as each team is 3-12 from the field and the two teams are a combined 1-8 from three-point range.

Juwan Morgan has half of IU's points.

* Under-16 timeout (15:09 left in the half) Wichita State leads IU 7-5.

Juwan Morgan and Al Durham have the only points for IU in the opening five minutes. Wichita State is 2-6 from the field and IU is 2-8 from the field, so the shooting and overall offensive structure has left a lot to be desired so far.

* IU wins the opening tip and Devonte Green turns the ball over on the game's first possession.

* Here are the starting lineups for each team.

* Romeo Langford will not play for IU tonight.

* The winner of tonight's game will advance to the NIT semifinals in Madison Square Garden in New York City, the loser will have its season come to a close.

* IU won home games against Saint Francis University and the University of Arkansas to reach this stage, while Wichita State won on the road against Furman University and Clemson University.

* Hello and welcome to tonight's live updates page for the IU men's basketball game between IU and Wichita State University. This game is part of the NIT, and it is a quarterfinal matchup.
