Hoosiers in the NFL: Week 4 recap

Then-junior running back Tevin Coleman runs with the ball during IU's game against Maryland on Sept. 27, 2014, at Memorial Stadium. Coleman was one of six former IU players who played in NFL games during week four.

Of the six former Hoosiers in action in the NFL during week four of the season, five of them ended up on the winning side of their respective games.

Offensive guard Rodger Saffold began the victories by playing in a Thursday night home victory for the Los Angeles Rams against the Minnesota Vikings. The Rams won 38-31, continuing their undefeated start to the 2018 season. Saffold has started all four Los Angeles victories this season and now has 99 career starts.

Linebacker Chris Covington made his NFL debut Sunday afternoon for the Dallas Cowboys in their 26-24 home win against the Detroit Lions. Covington didn’t post any tackles, but it was his first taste of NFL action.

Jordan Howard didn’t have to do much to ensure his Chicago Bears started the 2018 season with a 3-1 record. The running back only posted 11 rushing attempts for 25 yards in Chicago’s 48-10 blowout home win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Chicago enters its week five bye on top of the NFC North division.

Another former IU player picked up a win in Los Angeles on Sunday when Dan Feeney’s Los Angeles Chargers defeated the San Francisco 49ers 29-27. Feeney has started all four games for the Chargers, giving him 13 starts for his young career.

Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Jason Spriggs ensured that former IU offensive lineman would go 3-0 in week four as his Packers beat the Buffalo Bills 22-0. Spriggs has played in all four Green Bay games this season, giving him 27 career NFL appearances.

The lone Hoosier to not win during week four was Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman. He had 51 yards rushing and 26 receiving yards in a losing effort as the Falcons lost at home to the Cincinnati Bengals 37-36.
