USA Diving awarded IU head diving coach Drew Johansen the Mike Peppe Award on Thursday for being an “outstanding senior diving coach."
Johansen, who is in his third year as the head diving coach at IU, served as the head diving coach for Team USA at the Rio Olympics this past summer and in London four years prior. Under his direction Team USA has won seven medals at the Olympics.
Of the 10 divers on Team USA, Johansen has also coached three of them in Bloomington, including senior Jessica Parratto and junior Michael Hixon.
Johansen is currently in Columbus, Ohio, coaching Hixon and senior Michal Bower at the USA Diving Winter National Championships before some time off prior to the start of the spring season.
The Hoosiers will open spring competition against the Michigan Wolverines on Jan. 13.
