Upland announces release of seasonal beer

From IDS reports

One of Upland Brewery’s seasonal beers will be available on draught in select craft beer bars and in 4-packs throughout the company’s distribution area beginning Sept. 15.

Teddy Bear Kisses, a Russian stout, will also be on tap at Upland locations Sept. 25. It is brewed in the traditional stout method, according to an Upland press release.

“Teddy Bear Kisses is a delicious brew,” Upland Marketing Director Andrea Lutz said in an email. “The flavor sets this beer apart from other Russian stouts with notes of rich caramel, which come from the roasted malt and the molasses we add to the boil.”

Upland was started in 1998 and has locations in Bloomington, Broad Ripple and Carmel, all in Indiana, according to its website. It has been featured on the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation.”

Lutz said the name for Teddy Bear Kisses was likely chosen by for its peculiarity.

“It’s the last thing you would expect from a high-gravity, fully flavored stout,” Lutz said.

The drink is aged on fair trade cacao nibs, which Lutz said adds a layer of “bold chocolate flavor.” It also features dark malts and high alpha hops, to make it both sweet and bitter, according to the release.

Lutz said the beer is always popular within the Bloomington community and has a strong following. She added that students would be “best served” by enjoying it with a decadent brownie purchased using Campus Access.

“That being said, I’ll drink this beer just about any time I can get it,” Lutz said. “It’s one of my personal favorites.”
