IU Cinema screening Japanese film

From IDS reports

“Kabukichô Love Hotel,” a Japanese drama/romance, will play at 7 p.m. today at the IU Cinema.

According to IU Cinema’s website, the film “follows the intersecting lives of employees and visitors over one day and one night at a ‘Love Hotel’ — an establishment where visitors never linger long, but its employees labor late hours — in Tokyo’s titular Kabukichô district.”

It is part of this semester’s Themester, @Work: The Nature of Labor on a Changing Planet. It is also being played in conjunction with the East Asian Film Series and the International Arthouse Series, which brings films from around the world to IU’s campus.

Other films running this week from the International Arthouse Series include “Paris is Burning,” a documentary playing at 7 p.m. Thursday; a sneak preview for “Wolf Totem (Le Dernier Loup),” playing at 9 p.m. Thursday; and “Jellyfish Eyes,” a comedy/fantasy playing at 6:30 p.m. Friday and at 7 p.m. Saturday.

“Kabukichô Love Hotel” premiered at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival. It is played in Japanese language with English subtitles.

The event is free but ticketed. Tickets may be purchased on the IU Cinema website.
