The free classes will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the police department and will run from 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday until Nov. 17.
Because the class space is limited to 25, the department has chosen to fill the academy seats by taking applications.
Those who submit one must be 18 or older and be able to pass a background check.
Applicants who are admitted to the class will learn about various police processes, including Operating While Intoxicated enforcement, patrol techniques, criminal investigations, domestic violence and drug law enforcement.
Students will also learn how police cases proceed through the criminal justice system.
Those who finish the course in November will receive a certificate of completion and the opportunity to ride with a police officer when they go on a patrol assignment.
Applications are available either in paper at the police department or online at http://www.bloomington.in.gov/police.
