Junior Sam Monette earned second team All-Big Ten honors from the conference Thursday. This comes just before the start of the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament.
At the No. 1 singles spot, Monette went 14-14 this season with three wins against ranked opponents. He also went 14-13 in the No. 1 doubles position with junior Daniel Bednarcyzk.
“Sam has been a key player for us this season,” IU Coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. “He has stepped up and been a leader, and we always know he is going to give maximum effort on the court.”
Monette’s doubles partner, Bednarcyzk, earned the Sportsmanship Award as well. He went 15-11 at the No. 2 singles spot, as well as 6-4 in Big Ten play.
“I’m proud of Daniel earning the sportsmanship award,” Wurtzman said. “Dan is very steady on the court and has been vital to our success this season.”
