Train collides with car near 10th and Union streets

Shortly after midnight a train collided with the driver’s side of a white Audi at the tracks that cross Union Street near 10th Street.

Two passengers, a male driver and a female passenger, were found at the scene shortly after by IU student Stephan Addington. After a floormate of Addington’s saw the accident from his window on the sixth floor of Eigenmann Hall, Addington and others called for ambulances and rushed to the scene, he said.

When Addington arrived on the scene, he approached the vehicle and found the female passenger sitting on the ground near the car, he said. Addington, a Red Cross First Aid Emergency Care trained responder, conducted back and spinal checks on the female passenger, he said. He also reported hearing breathing from the male driver.

Both passengers appeared to be responsive, Lt. George Robinson said. They have both been transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, Robinson said.

An investigation on the cause of the accident is still ongoing and a scene reconstructionist has been called, Robinson said.
