Transcription: Social Activities Keyed To Little 500 Week End
The A.T.O’s will be hosts to Wilbur Shaw, president of the Indianapolis Speedway, and other officials and honored guests here for the Little 500 at a dinner tomorrow at the chapter house.
George Koutas and his combo will play for a dance at the chapter house after the dinner.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon will give a reception in honor of the officials of the Little 500 Friday night at 10 o’clock.
Housing units having exchange dinners this evening include Kappa Alpha Theta with Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Kappa Gamma with Alpha Tau Omega, and Pl Beta Phi with Phi Kappa Psi. These units are several or the Little 500 teams and their coed sponsors.
Phi Delta Theta will entertain their Little 500 coed sponsor, Delta Zeta, at a tea dance after the race tomorrow afternoon.
Housing units which w111 entertain rushees this week end are ‘Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Delta Rho, Theta Chi, Theta XI, Kappa Sigma, and Phi Kappa.
Pi Kappa Phi will give its annual “Club 504” dance tomorrow night at the chapter house from 9 o’clock to midnight .. Al Balkin and his combo will play.
The girls of Alpha Phi and their dates will dance at the “Forget-Me-Not Fantasy” tomorrow night at the chapter house from 9 o’clock to midnight Fred Dale and his combo will play.
Before the dance, the couples will eat at the Marine Room In the Union Building. Decorations for the dance will be centered around a garden theme. The committee for the dance includes Sondra Campbell, junior, chairman; Phyllis Willingham, junior, Carolyn Prickett and Margaret Axe, sophomores.
The Sweetheart Formal in Alumni Hall Saturday night will be one of the events in celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of Sigma Alpha Mu. The Sammy’s will select a sweetheart from among the six candidates for Sweetheart of Sigma Alpha Mu They are Betty Zanger and Saralie Siegal, juniors, and Sandra Kaminsky, Devra Miller, Helen Chivan, and Barbara Trock man, freshmen. Clay Phillips and his combo will play, for the dance.
A Western theme will be carried out at the Hickory Hall record dance, “Sliver Dollar Saloon,” tonight from 9 o’clock to midnight. Costumes, favors, decorations, and refreshments will carry out the theme of this affair. John Stevens, freshman, is chairman of the dance.
Delta Chi’s chapter house will be turned into a Hawaiian paradise tomorrow night for their annual Spring formal. The members and their dates will dance to the music of Ed Yates’ combo. The decorations will include a waterfall, an underwater scene, and a four-foot hula girl statuette. In front of the house will he a flower-covered fence, and the patio will be turned into a beach complete with beach umbrellas ‘and a boardwalk.
Guests will include President Herman B Wells and Colonel and Mrs. Raymond L. Shoemaker. Chaperones for the dance are Colonel and Mrs. Hall King and Major and Mrs. J. E. Bradbury. Both men are of the Department of Military Science and Tactics.
Rogers Center will have a semi-formal dance in Rogers’ Dining Hall tomorrow from 9 o’clock to midnight. Hal Kern and his combo will play for the dance.
The members of Friar Hall and their dates will have a picnic at Brown County State Park tomorrow from 4 to 9 p.m.
“Gold Nugget” will be the theme of the Phi Kappa Tau pledge dance tomorrow night at the chapter house from 9 o’clock to midnight.
The Trojans of M.R.C. will have a picnic and barn dance at McCormick’s Creek State Park tomorrow evening.
Lincoln House will have a mixer tomorrow evening from 9 o’clock to midnight at the house.
Elms House will have a picnic tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 o’clock at Yellowood Lake. Marry Ryder, sophomore, is in charge of arrangements.
North Hall B will have a picnic at Morran-Monroe State Forest to-morrow evening.
The pledges to Phi Mu and Phi Kappa Tau will sponsor David Hall, of 201 E. 12th street, in the Soap Box Derby July 16th. A tea in his honor was given at the Phi Mu house yesterday. The active chapter of Phi Kappa Tau will back Ronald Billings, of 713 S. Lincoln street, in the race.
South Cottage Grove will have a picnic at Yellowood Lake tomorrow from 5 to 10 p.m.
