Bloomington Police Department officers were dispatched to 2500 S. Rockport Rd. around 8:30 p.m. Thursday for a report of shots fired, BPD Sgt. Steven Kellams said. When officers arrived, residents pointed officers to the apartment of Dan Beckum, 28.
Beckum, who was subsequently arrested for outstanding warrants, advised officers that two African-American males and one Caucasian male had approached him in the apartment complex with a handgun, punched him in the face and then stole his backpack, which contained his laptop.
As the three individuals ran away, Sgt. Kellams said one of them discharged the handgun in the air.
The case is still active.
