The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last week that a California high school could stop students from wearing American flag-themed apparel on Cinco de Mayo.

The decision is intended to promote student safety given the school’s history of racial tension. Two members of the Editorial Board illustrated our differing opinions.
Is the ruling a violation of free speech, or does it protect students and the dignity of both cultures?
