Suspected murder-suicide leaves two dead

A 77-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman were found shot to death in a retirement center Friday morning.

County Coroner Nicole Meyer confirmed Ruth and Robert White died of gunshot wounds, according to the Bloomington Herald-Times. Meyer said it appeared Robert shot his wife twice and then himself.

The Bloomington Police Department declined to release any more information as of Sunday.

“Friday morning we had a tragic incident involving a resident of our community,” Larry Diersing, Meadowood Retirement Community executive director, said in an email.

“Because of state and federal privacy laws, we cannot provide any further information about this resident. We take the safety and well-being of our residents very seriously and are cooperating with the authorities to investigate this matter. We will provide whatever support and assistance we can to our residents, families and staff.”
