Police learn more about recent rape cases

Rape originally reported in Tuesday’s IDS
Bloomington Police Department interviewed a suspect for the rape of a 20-year-old woman that occurred Sunday morning in the downtown area.
The suspect denied involvement.
A cheek swab sample was collected for DNA and submitted to the state lab for comparison with CODIS system data, a FBI index system.
Sexual assault originally reported in Wednesday’s IDS
The Bloomington Police Department conducted further interviews of a 23-year-old woman who reported she was sexually assaulted Monday afternoon on the east side of Bloomington.
The BPD could not obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s DNA, BPD Sgt. Joe Crider said.
The case is now inactive.
