Monroe County implements alert system

Monroe County citizens can now receive emergency alerts and other local news by signing up for the Monroe County Alert Program.

The new system gives people updates on tornado warnings, unexpected road closures, missing persons and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods.

According to the Monroe County website, the system will be used to notify people about imminent threats to health and safety, as well as informational notifications that affect people’s locations.

Threats communicated through the alert system include tornado warnings, flooding and gas leaks.

When signing up, people are asked to submit a user name, password and cell phone numbers and they are then able to select their locations.

Users can add multiple locations so people can get alerts about events happening near their workplace, family’s school or home.

People can sign up by going to www.co.monroe.in.us and clicking on Citizen Alert notification sign up.
