Man arrested for armed vehicle theft

FROM IDS REPORTS

Bloomington police arrested a man Monday evening for his alleged involvement in an armed vehicle theft and battery, BPD Sgt. Joseph Crider said.

Craig Thacker, 44, was arrested at about 10 p.m. Monday. He is facing preliminary charges including robbery, carjacking, strangulation, intimidation and confinement after reportedly jumping into his ex-girlfriend’s car.

Police responded to University Inn, 2601 N. Walnut St., Monday evening after receiving a report Thacker had been frequenting the hotel, Crider said.

Upon arrival, police reported to his room and took him into custody.

The victim was parked at a gas station early Sunday morning when Thacker approached the vehicle. He reportedly entered the vehicle and instructed her to drive to her sister’s residence as he held her at knifepoint, Crider said. Thacker then proceeded to batter her and drive away in her white 1991 Pontiac Sunfire.

Thacker is currently booked at the Monroe County Jail. Bond is set at $45,000 surety and $500 cash, although due to probation holds, he is not currently eligible to bond out.
