2 rapes reported during break

Two rapes were reported to IU police last week.

The first was reported March 7 to the IU Health Center.

Keith Cash, chief of the IU Police Department, said in an email that police picked up an anonymous rape kit, meaning the victim at this time wishes to remain anonymous and is not pursuing an investigation.

“We log it into evidence should she change her mind later,” Cash said.

On March 8, a rape by force was reported to IUPD at Willkie Quad.

Cash said the female student who reported this rape said it also occurred on March 7, when she went to an off-campus party near the intersection of 15th and Dunn streets. She went with two friends, and then she left with a male acquaintance at 12:30 a.m. Cash said the victim believes at some point after this she was sexually assaulted.

Investigation on the second reported rape is ongoing and active.
