An arrest was made Monday morning following a reported rape that occurred after an office Christmas party.
At about 5 a.m., police were called to a residence on the 400 block of South Washington Street where they arrested Carlos Nunez, 32, Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. John Kovach said.
Nunez and the victim, 25, are coworkers, Kovach said, along with the woman’s boyfriend. The three of them returned to the residence between 3 and 4 a.m. from an office Christmas party where they had reportedly consumed alcohol.
While at the residence, the woman retired to bed while Nunez and the boyfriend stayed up watching television and drinking beer, Kovach said.
The woman awoke in her bed to find Nunez having non-consensual sexual intercourse with her. She yelled for her boyfriend, who entered the room and wrestled Nunez off of her and dragged him outside.
The woman called 911 while her boyfriend restrained Nunez, Kovach said. Police arrested Nunez outside on preliminary rape charges. She was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where a rape kit was performed, Kovach said.
Nunez, a resident of the 700 block of West Gourley Pike, refused to speak with authorities regarding the matter.
