Christopher
Gugliuzza, the IU sophomore accused of torturing and killing at least
one cat, is no longer a student on the Bloomington campus.
IU
Associate Vice President of University Communications Mark Land
confirmed Gugliuzza has been suspended and is not permitted to finish
the fall term.
"The
(Division of Student Affairs) has the authority to do a summary
suspension of someone for violating the student conduct code," Land
said.
Gugliuzza can choose to appeal the suspension, but would remain suspended until his case is heard.
Land said in light of "facts that aren't really in dispute," the suspension came to be.
Gugliuzza
is facing two felony charges filed by the Monroe County Prosecutor's
Office.
The former School of Public and Environmental Affairs student is accused of torturing Lennox, a 3-month-old orange and white cat left for dead in a wooded area, but later discovered alive by two students. Gugliuzza admitted to Bloomington police he killed at least one other cat.
