Women's soccer coach Lyon to retire after 11 years at IU

After 11 seasons with the IU women’s soccer team, IU Coach Mick Lyon will retire at the end of the year, according to a press release.

“These past couple of years have been extremely difficult for me physically, so in the best interest of Indiana University, its Athletic Department, and most importantly the IU Women’s Soccer Team, it is time for a change in my life,” he said in the release.

Throughout his tenure at IU, Lyon achieved a 95-98-21 record and saw 14 players given either first or second team All-Big Ten accolades, with two named NSCAA first team All-Region.

He also tallied his 200th career victory earlier this year when the Hoosiers defeated the Boilermakers, leading the team to its first victory against Purdue in the regular season during his time at IU.

A national search for a new head coach is set to begin immediately, led by Julie Cromer, senior associate athletic director for compliance and administration and senior women’s administrator. Throughout the transitional period, however, IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass has formed a team to oversee the program, according to the release.
