Richard Mourdock

Republican

Mourdock

Mourdock is in his second term as Indiana’s State Treasurer, most recently elected in 2007. Before he was elected as treasurer, Mourdock worked in the private sector in energy, environmental and construction industries.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Geology from Ball State University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Defiance College. He is a licensed professional geologist and former Vanderburgh County Commissioner.

Mourdock ousted long-time Republican Senator Richard Lugar in Indiana’s May Republican primary, taking 61% of the vote.

Mourdock’s platform includes eliminating wasteful spending caused by earmarking and cutting federal spending by 7.6 trillion. He supports repealing the Federal Affordable Care Act, opposes the DREAM Act and opposes abortion under all circumstances.

He is a strict Constitutionalist and supporter of gun rights. He supports the preservation of Social Security and Medicare and opposes “cap and trade.” He supports the reduction of the IRS and the creation of a Balanced Budget Amendment. He would support auditing the Federal Reserve and “believes that a strong national defense is the best strategy to deter aggression,” according to his website.

At the last Indiana Senate Debate, Mourdock stated “I’m a geologist, unlikely as it may seem. Five years ago I was asked to join Governor Daniels’ team, and I did my part during those tough days of the financial downturn to make sure Indiana lived within its means. We’ve kept this state going, we’ve been a part of indiana’s comeback. We look forward to taking Hoosier common sense principles to Washington."
