Tips for driving in inclement weather will be discussed at Defensive Driving Seminar: Tips for Safe Driving on Snow and Ice 7 p.m. Wednesday in Herman B Wells Library E174.
The event is sponsored by the Office of International Services and IU Police Department.
IUPD Lt. Don Schmuhl will present the seminar.
Schmuhl will talk about the challenges and surprises of driving in winter and how one
can best handle them, Office of International Services Assistant Director Sandy Britton said in an email.
“There will, of course, be an interactive component where students can ask questions and discuss particular situations,” Britton said.
Britton said the seminar was organized in response to concerns expressed by some international students that winter driving is challenging and intimidating.
She also said there are many factors that affect driving in bad weather.
“The one that seems to bother the students the most is the issue of sleet and heavy snow,” Britton said. “Maneuvering a car on streets that are slippery and dangerous is definitely a concern that has been expressed.”
Britton said observing safety guidelines is most important when it comes to driving in inclement weather.
Although the program is mainly targeted at international students, Britton said all students are welcome to attend.
“It would be good if domestic students who share such concerns join the seminar, as well,” Britton said.
